He's a fighter

Meet Hayden.
He's got the cutest baby face, right? He's only 10 months. And his mama is so thankful that he was even sitting in that sand box because just five months before, Hayden was diagnosed with lymphoma.
He spent three months at the Oakland Children's Hospital undergoing surgeries, post op testing, chemo. It's rough being a kid.
But his smile will just brighten your day. Melissa tells me that it was a humbling thing being in the cancer ward of the Children's hospital. She was always greeted with such happiness and glee. She would walk no more than five steps without being stopped by a child undergoing cancer treatments, eager to greet other visitors, other patients. The nurses told her Hayden was always just the happiest baby all the time. Smiles, and raised arms for someone to hold him. To have the eyes and faith of a child will always baffle me.
Melissa, THANK YOU, for introducing me to Hayden. He'll have a place in my heart always.

Ever made a paper hat?

Really. When was the last time you made one? With the paper? We forgot how, but thanks to modern technology Big Guy went to town with Caramel and Cream to make a few.
Baby Naomi got one too.

Indy Day

Independence that is.
Now don't go getting on me about not calling our Nation's celebration of freedom it's proper name.
But these are older memories and thoughts now.
And we enjoyed our parade downtown, with our friends. A beautiful show of the diversity our town has to offer.
And a wonderful meal that J and I prepared, including fresh farm fair from Fresh Edibles.
Joined by our friends later that night for pizza, s'mores and the fire work light show we watched from our front yard.
I am so thankful to be granted these privileges that we often take for granted.
God bless America.

Not.in.a.good.mood

Here is Ella. Fresh from a nap. "Not.in.a.good.mood," she says. Wearing my winter cap. She's so cute when she's grumpy. LOVE HER!

I love a pregnant lady
Michaelyn contacted me when she had a month left to go with her pregnancy.
She wanted pictures of her pregnant belly. Nothing of the nakey variety but more of just her and her belly and her beauty. Big sister Morgan would be along, too.
So together the three of us had a little "What to expect" photo session. Michaelyn is GORGEOUS! Her eyes were just sparkling. And despite the obvious discomfort that comes with being 6 weeks away from her baby's arrival she made it through!
Here are a few of my faves...

Ella is the illest
The fact that she KNOWS how to sing the chorus to Run DMC's "Tricky" makes me giggle.
The fact she can point out Run and D.M.C. (RIP Jam Master Jay) in a photo makes her Daddy smile.
And the killer part is that when she wears her Run D.M.C. tee she KNOWS to look for the glasses so she can look just like D.M.C.
We could be teaching her more important things...Bible verses, addition, sign language. But she has time to learn all that later.
So for right now:
"It's tricky to rock a rhyme
To rock a rhyme that's right on time
It's tricky tricky tricky tricky tricky."
