Was good. Again, it was about the quality time I spent with my family.
I wanted to sleep in but I also wanted to go to the first service at Cornerstone Fellowship in Livermore. This is a new church for us about 30 minutes away from our house. Cornerstone Fellowship had "special music" for Mother's Day. Who was the special music? None other than Sara Groves. (I have an eclectic taste of music. I can jam to Notorious BIG in the afternoon after listening to Feist in the morning.)
We made it to the second service after I decided to sleep in. And the church is HUUUGE. The parking lot is packed but as we start walking toward the courtyard I can hear Sara singing "Add to the Beauty" coming through the speakers. Eeek! I walked faster. Justin told me to slow down.
There was a little stalling as we checked into the girls into Kids Church but they were doing announcements. We found seats CLOSE to the stage and I could see Sara sitting there at her piano. SHE LOOKED SO NORMAL. She always looks so boho glam on her site and CD jackets. Her hair was pulled back, she had on a faded grey t-shirt, one of those skinny scarves, a black skirt and little open toe wedges. She was in front of her keyboard with a mic stand to the side. Her husband was on drums. Another dude on guitar. And a chick singing back up.
She spoke and her voice is so soft. But not soft in a bashful way. More like peaceful. She spoke and I smiled. It was soothing. But anyhow, it was AWESOME to see her. Just there, playing piano.
She sang "Small Piece of You" for all the mama's day and although the song is cute and light and humorous, I cried a lil' because I realized that Olivia and Ella are getting so big.
She sang "In The Girl There's A Room" and told the story of the girl that was taken by a family friend and sold into prostitution.
She sang a slower version of "When The Saints" and told the story of International Justice Mission's role in saving the little girl that was sold into prostitution and returning her to a "normal life."
The last song she sang was synced to a video of her trip to Rwanda. It was beautiful. She was beautiful. And I am thankful that part of my Mother's Day was seeing Sara and being overwhelmed with joy.
